2. Coordination of Care

Family physicians are also the coordinator of care for patients. A family physician has an overview of a patient's problems and is aware of the range of healthcare options available. A family physician also identifies resources in the community that can be used to provide patient care. Therefore, family physicians are in the ideal position to serve as the coordinator of care and advise patients on the most appropriate care.
