Introduction

Growth faltering, also known as failure-to-thrive, refers to a slower rate of growth than expected in a child.

It is characterised by inadequate energy intake to meet the metabolic demands of a child to sustain growth.

It is a clinical condition and not a diagnosis.

Weight is first affected, followed by height/length and head circumference slowing if no intervention is administered.
