Perception
STEP 2: Assessing the Patient’s PERCEPTION
Assessing patient’s perception. This is done using these strategies:
- Use open ended questions.
- Explore the patient's ideas, concerns and expectations of the disease.
- Let them express their fears and concerns.
- Correct any misinformation and tailor the bad news to what the patient understands.
- Identifying patient's denial on the disease.
Match the questions to the best context. (Only the correct activity will stick.)

- "What do you think about the results? Why do you think so?"
- "Would you tell me about your illness from the start?"
CONCERN

- "Anything else that bothers you? How are these important to you?"
- "Are you concerned about anyone in particular?"
EXPECTATION
- "Is there anything you want to know about your condition?"
- "How can we help you?"
- "How would you like me to give the information about the test results?"
- "Anything else about your condition than what you have told me earlier?"
