STEP 2: Assessing the Patient’s PERCEPTION

Assessing patient’s perception. This is done using these strategies:

  • Use open ended questions.

  • Explore the patient's ideas, concerns and expectations of the disease.

  • Let them express their fears and concerns.

  • Correct any misinformation and tailor the bad news to what the patient understands.

  • Identifying patient's denial on the disease.
